Healthcare Volunteers

Healthcare volunteers (HCVs) such as physicians, medical students, nurse practitioners, nurses and nursing students, pharmacists and pharmacy students, respiratory therapists, and other health and allied health professionals are needed to assist in meeting the medical and daily care needs of our campers and staff. CAMP’s HCV opportunities afford healthcare professionals a chance to gain a more in-depth understanding of the day-to-day challenges, accomplishments, and care needs of our campers and their families.

Without our volunteers, many of these families would not have the opportunity for time away from their caregiving responsibilities with the assurance their children are in a safe and medically appropriate environment.

HCV Continuing Education
CAMP’s Developmental Disability Reality Course (DDRC) provides HCVs the opportunity to earn continuing education credits while volunteering at CAMP throughout the summer. The DDRC course is designed to increase knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with developmental disabilities while maintaining a focus on current trends in providing care for individuals with developmental disabilities.

HCVs attend daily lectures about the disabilities and medical conditions of the campers present during their session and then join their assigned Tribe for “hands-on” training through CAMP activities the rest of each day. This unique opportunity provides a direct learning connection between didactic content and practice.
